Too Long

Well it's been too long since my last post. But a lot has happened. Maxwell Mitchell Garner was born on Sept, 16 2009. Was not suppose to be a C sec. But we'll take him anyways. Mommy needed help so I cashed in all my day at a time vacation days and my floating holiday to go to Mississippi. So I could help my sister recuperate. She is a big baby(literally, the baby of our family).

I have the green, yellow and light blue squares done for Max's quilt. 5 of 6 now done. I'm almost done with the navy blue one. Last one is always the killer. I hope now that I've missed one deadline I can meet another one. I'm not stupid enough to think it will get done before the end of this year. Not with Thanksgiving and Christmas yet to come. But perhaps buy the end of February.

I will be cooking Thanksgiving turkey at home this year. First time I've had Thanksgiving day of in many years. I plan on doing a brine. I already bought the turkey. He is thawing in the fridge right now, all 13lbs of him. The next day we are going to drive to Mississippi one more time this year, to visit with Max and the Garner family. We hear that he is smiling and cooing. Can't wait to see how his big brother Charlie is interacting with him now he is responding more.

Not forgotten

I'm still working on Max's quilt he should be here any day now. I finished block 2 of 6. I've already started on the green block. Trying to get the top pieced before he arrives. I realize it would have been more frustrating if I had pieced it on the machine, so I'm glad I hand pieced them. I can be sure that the corners match.

I finished my practice quilt. It was fun and I sure wish it was bigger. 60"x60" is just not enough. If only I had 36 more squares.

Some happiness few and far between

I had to feel productive on July 4th.I have a need for pin cushions. Using the plastic caps from water bottles. I hate plastic water bottles. I use a Tervis Tumbler for my water,no bottled water. But what a great idea to use the tops to any plastic containers and make it into a pin cushion. Cut a circle out of leftover scraps an then stuff it with stuffing. Hot glue it to the plastic cap of your choice.

This morning was my class. We made a luggage tag. Very cute. For my daughter Christine. Her big brother couldn't say Christine, so he called her Kiki.

Sewing Class

Went to sewing class yesterday, to learn about the maching embroidery feature on my machine. Very involved, I can see the creative possibilities are endless using this technique. Here are a couple of the practice designs.

Previous Commitments

I am in the process of making my soon to be newest newphew a quilt. His name is Max and is due on Sept 21, 2009. My sister Joan and her husband Charlie are expecting their second child. Lil Charlie was born April 15, 2008. Lil Charlie recieved a quilt when he was born all hand pieced, hand appiqued and hand quilted. Sky Dreams is the pattern name designed by Claire Oehler.

Max is getting a more traditonal quilt. Called Double Dutch. Design by Sandra Klop. Published in American Patchwork & Quilting Feb, 2009 issue.

This is the 1st block. All pieced by hand. Alot of triangles. I feel the need to make this quilt by hand. Like I did for Lil Charlie. It's a sickness I guess.

The yellow background is the backing to my Valori Wells practice quilt.

Practice Makes Perfect

Made this simple quilt to practice my machine quilting. I just bought a Bernina Arista 630e w/BSR. Since I'm an old school hand quilter I need alot of practice. I used Valorie Wells fabric and easy 10" squares. I hope I'm feeling more confident when this is finished. My practice on the small sandwich blocks is not very realistic of what size projects I would like to tackle. Wish me luck.

Sunset in Paradise

This is paradise. Clearwater Beach sunset Friday May 22, 2009. Sitting at French's Restaurant. Enjoying a get together for our friend Allen who turned 50. It had rained nearly all day on and off, but cleared up for our dinner.
